In the second episode of our series of free Irish podcasts The  The Writer’s Passage your guide is author Claire Nolan.  Claire brings us to three places in Kilkenny City which form the backdrop of her book The Stone.

The Stone tells the story of Alice Kyteler a notorious noble woman who disappeared without trace in 1324. She was thought to have supernatural powers and to have poisoned several men, including three of her husbands.

Claire takes us to three areas in Kilkenny which mirror the steps taken in her book, tales of witch trials, religious power and ultimate tragedy, this journey is an insight into Medieval Ireland with Claire’s own take on this world central to the tour.

The Writer’s Passage Photographs.

It was a beautiful sunny day when we arrived in Kilkenny City.  Below shows Bishop Le Drede’s tomb and a photograph of Killkenny Castle.

Stopping at Kyteler’s Inn we took a picture of Claire with an image of Alice in the background, we weren’t the only people who noticed a similiarity.
