Hi!

I have always loved the work of Patrick throughout his lifetime. He was a good poet and most of his works inspired me to try writing different things. For me has inspired a lot of people. Thank you for sharing this!

Patrick Galvin was one of my first influences in Irish music, as I heard his early recordings in my youth, along with those of the McPeake Family and the late great Davy Hammond of Belfast. It was not until quite a few years later that I learned of many of his other talents and accomplishments. A great man has passed, but left behind a rich legacy for us. I felt as though I knew him through his writing and singing, though I never met him. I am deeply saddened by his passing. My sincere condolences to his family.

A chairde,

Very sorry to hear of Patrick's death. For years I've been singing his song, "Where O Where Is Our James Connolly." And I'll air two versions of that song on a radio program ON-LINE on Saturday, 21 May. The program is called ATLANTIC WEEKLY PART TWO, from 10 am till 12 noon, eastern US time ( so, 3-5 pm Irish time ). It can be found at WTJU.net.

I have known something of Patrick for nearly half a century as I was introduced to his great collection of Irish rebel songs in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney late in 1962 ... Many of those songs entered the swag of songs that blossomed again in the Australia folk song revival. Brian Mooney and Declan Affley both raided that book I'm sure ... indeed my copy of Irish Songs of Resistance notes that it is distributed in "Artarmon Sydney Australia". The copyright says WMA (ie Workers Music Association ) and the publisher is Oak. So 4 countries if we include Ireland have a part in its existence. Some years ago I tried to find a way of contacting Patrick as I wanted his permission to add his James Connolly to my online collection of Union Songs. It's a song still sung over here on special occasions of resistance ... it was number 18 in the Union Song collection that has since grown to over 700 songs and poems from across the world.

One of the great regrets of my life is that I never met Patrick Galvin and now that cannot be put right. I became aware of him many years ago when I heard a well known actor reading "The Mad Woman of Cork". There was no Google then but I was so fascinated by it that I finally tracked it down and discovered the fantastic treasure trove that Patrick Galvin is. I am very sad at his passing.

Having known Paddy and Mary in Belfast it was wonderful to hear again Mary's warm voice and laughter in the interview. The pod cast made me once again appreciate the range and incite fullness of Paddy's work, a great achievement in 23 minutes. I would encourage you to listen to it.
