New performances from Charlie McGettigan

We are delighted to let you know that we have 2 new songs performed exclusively for by Eurovision Song Contest Winner Charlie Mc Gettigan. 2 More Shows Added

Hi everyone,

It has been a busy couple of weeks away from the world of podcasting.  We been printing scripts and meeting the actors ahead of next week’s recording of the seconds series of our children’s drama.  “Spike The Hedgehog and The Magical Pocket of Time” which we begin recording next week in Gleneaskey County Sligo, while RTE Junior are rerunning “The Remarkable Adventures of Spike The Hedgehog” on Saturday mornings at 11 am Irish time.  The new series will be aired from September 18th.  We will bring Spike 1 to you here on over the next few weeks. In the meantime we have added the June edition of The Calendar Road and Programme 23 of The Artbeat Archive as well as a new performance podcast by Kate Kerrigan for your enjoyment.

We have some more podcasts for you this week including 2 more editions of our self produced show “The Calendar Road” in which Sinead looks at how this rural Irish road is lush with the growth that May brings and on “The Artbeat Archive” Jho talks to Author Órfhlaith Ni Chonaill, The Blue Raincoat Theatre perform an excerpt from Eugene Ionesco’s “The Bald Soprana and a chance to hear again an interview with “The Bankable Artist” himself Kevin Sharkey and there is a reading by Dublin based poet Pauline Fayne.

Songs, Stories and Heroes

We are delighted to welcome Mayo based singer songwriter Tony Reidy to We have uploaded an interview on his page under featured musicians and will be bringing you the fantastic performances he recorded in the weeks to come which were made in his garden overlooking Clew Bay and in the shadow of Croagh Patrick. While we were in Mayo we also visited The Mayo Peace Park and recorded a guided tour of the park with the man who made it all happen Michael Feeney MBE and as if that was not enough we got the exclusive on a fantastic, yet little know tale of Bob Of The Reek as we stood at the foot of Croagh Patrick with Archaeologist Brendan Walsh who first came across the story in 1995 and has researched further into the details especially for us here at You can expect to hear both podcasts later in the week, in the meantime we are busy working on more material for the site but we hope you enjoy our growing library of material

New Writer and new performance podcast


We are delighted to welcome Sligo based musician and singer Carmel Gunning to this week. Carmel is a Fleadh Cheoil winner in tin whistle and Director of The Carmel Gunning International International Summer School Festival of Irish music, song and dance (formerly The Queen Maeve International Summer School) Also new this week is a performance podcast by Cork Based poet, novelist, playwrite and songwriter Patrick Galvin. In these early recordings Patrick recites “The Mad Woman of Cork”  and the latest edition of  The Artbeat Archive  (programme 21) celebrates Bealtaine with a replay of a 2004 recording from the Art Health Programme for Older People in Saint Anne’s in Sligo  We are off to Castlebar on Monday to record 2 pieces for our People and Places section and we are constantly organising with writers from all over Ireland to come on and share their thoughts and their work with us, so expect the podcasts to keep coming.

2 New podcasts

We have added a new perfomance podcast by Musician Donnacha Toomey in which Donnacha performs 3 pieces for us including the songs “Early one “, ” Same way that I do”  and the hauntingly beautiful instrumental “Daylight Moon“.  Also under Armchair Ireland/ Myths & Legends you can hear a brand new adaptation of the story of the birth of Fionn Mc Cumhaill and his early adventures with his Wolfhound Bran and there was some great news from Poet Terry Mc Donagh whose poem “A Slim Volume” was a runner up in The Fish Publishing Poetry Prize. An anthology, to include winners and runners-up in short stories, flash fiction and poetry competitions which will be launched at the West Cork Literary Festival in Bantry on July 7th.

More new writers and podcasts

We are delighted to welcome Dublin born poet Pauline Fayne this week and to include the first of several readings by Thomas Mc Carthy and a reading by Ger Reidy from his just released second collection “Drifting Under The Moon”  Ger also features in this weeks Artbeat Archive as he reads a short story written especially for the show in 2007.

Book launches for 3 of our featured writers

Congratulations go to no less than three of our featured writers this week. On Friday, April 23rd (World book day)  Terry Mc Donagh’s  latest poetry collection, “The Truth in Mustard” (Arlen House) was launched in Booksellers bookshop in Madrid at 7.30pm. and on Thursday 29th Noel Monahan launched his fifth  collection ” Curve of The Moon” (Salmon) in Cavan.

Noel will hold his Dublin launch On Thursday next 6th of May at The Unitarian Church on Saint Stephen’s Green. You can listen to Terry and Noel talk about their books and exclusive readings from these works on their respective pages here on .

Still to come is the release of Ger Reidy’s second collection ” Drifting Under The Moon” (Dedalus Press) on Wednesday evening at 8 pm at The Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar and from Thursday you can hear a brand now podcast of Ger reading from the collection here on

Also this week you can hear Sinead Mc Clure present the April edition of The Calendar Road under our weekly shows section. And there is plenty more to come with many writers agreeing to come on board over the coming weeks.

New recordings added

This week we are delighted to coninue with our free audio podcasting services and we are thrilled to welcome more Irish authors to our featured writers section.  In featured poetry Noel Monahan joins us and in his first recording talks about his work to date, his past and how it has influenced his poetry and his inclusion on the syllabus for the 2011 Leaving Certificate curriculum.  Also we are delighted to welcome one of Ireland’s great writers and commentators Patrick Galvin who you will also find in our featured poetry section, we include a very interesting interview about Patrick and his life. 

 Also this week there is a new installment of the weekly show The Artbeat Archive looking back at arts events in the mid and northwest region of Ireland.

The Voyage Tour 2010

After an excellent performance on The Late Late Show on RTE  Television on the 16th of April 2010,  Johnny Duhan officially launched his Irish Tour for this year, we are delighted to bring you three stunning performances from Johnny Duhan on    We met with Johnny in February and he performed some of his best known songs for us.   The Voyage Tour 2010 begins at the Belltable Arts Centre in Limerick on the 30th of April moving on to the Balor Theatre in Ballybofey on May 7th, the Town Hall in Galway on the 13th of May and the Source Arts Centre in Thurles, Tipperary on the 4th of June, here on, you can get a preview if you visit Johnny’s page in our Featured Musicians sections as we have just added a batch of new recordings from Johnny featuring an exceptional recording of The Voyage.   For more details on The Voyage Tour 2010 check out Johnny’s website here.
