Showcase No. 7

Showcase No. 7 was originally produced using Christmas based pieces but now that the festive season is behind us we have replaced it with an all new podcast of the same name and number and if that is not enough to confuse you we have A Roscommon man living in Dublin standing on a bridge near Monasteraden in County Sligo.  A Dublin native now living in Leitrim singing a song about ghost reputed to haunt Drimnagh Castle.   A Kerryman who met us in Tuam in County Galway to record one of his tunes and a Kilkenny lady now living and working  in Dublin returning to her native city to explain about a bishop from the 14th Century.   We feature 2 excerpts from our latest series of podcasts “The Writers PassageJohn Mulligan takes us to  Lough Gara halfway between Ballaghadereen and Boyle where the adventure that is the “Following in The Footsteps Of The Four Famous Flannery’s” begins.  Ursula Connolly sings her self penned “Eleanora Sleeps” Donnacha Toomey shows off his exquisite guitar playing on “Daylight Moon”  and Claire Nolan takes us to Kilkenny for an excerpt from her edition of  The Writers Passage all this ably presented by Jho Harris Read the rest of this entry »

Showcase Episode 6

Our Irish writers showcase Number 6 brings you poetry by Jack Harte as featured in his latest book ” Unravelling The Spiral” and Thomas Mc Carthy reads some of his early poetry while our music comes from Tony Reidy  performing the title track from his album “A Rough Shot of Lipstick” and we have an unplugged and exclusive recording by  Johnny Duhan of his classic song made famous by Christy Moore “The Voyage“.  As usual your host is Jho Harris

 Our Irish writers showcase programme No 5 including music from Sligo based band NoCrows 3rd Album NoCrows on The Moon which has just been released as well as Donegal born, now living in County Leitrim Charlie Mc Gettigan talking about and performing a verse from his song Bailieboro And Me about a man he know from the County Cavan Town and from West Cork two ladies read for you from their works based on personal experiences, Alice Taylor from her novel  The Village and Rosemary Canavan from her poem Truckers Moll.  All this in one self contained slice of Irish podcasting presented by Jho Harris designed to give a flavour from the 120 plus free audio podcasts available to listen now or download for later

The Showcase Episode 1

In the first of our showcase shows featuring exclusive performances of their own work by Irish writers we have a great mix of music and culture for you, from our People & Places channel we take a snippet from Handel’s Messiah recorded live in Fishamble Street in 2010 and conducted by Prionsias O’Din with Our Lady’s Choral Society and Soloist Ross Scanlon.   Bringing you back to April we take a showery walk along The Calendar Road, one of our featured shows.  We have two excellent once off musical performances highlighting Charlie McGettigan performing “Feet of a Dancer” from our Featured Musicians Channel and it’s back to People and Places with none other than Michael Flattely showing off his skills as a flautist. also this week, a reading from Steve Dunford ( pictured) and his book The Táin Bó Flidhas, The Mayo Tain.   The Showcase is presented by Jho Harris. Also new this week under our featured musicians section are performance podcasts by Traditional musician Carmel Gunning and singer/songwriter Tony Reidy
