Welcome to Johnny Duhan’s page here on podcasts.ie, here you will find audio recordings of Johnny’s work for your listening pleasure.
Born and raised in County Limerick, Johnny Duhan is the son of a sailor who travelled between the docks of Limerick and the ports of England and Europe. Johnny Duhan is a singer/songwriter of enormous talent. Formally the leader of R&B/soul cover band, Granny’s Intention in the late 1960’s, Johnny has become one of Ireland’s foremost songwriters. He is in the enviable position of being an author in word and song, his autobiographical books “There is a Time”, and the recently published “To the Light (unsung)” serve to strengthen his lyric adding more colour and depth to his words.
As Johnny says himself his life works are reflected in four album collections, they are “Just Another Town”, “The Voyage”, “To the Light” and “Flame” which he says correspondent with the four chapters of his autobiography to date.
Johnny’s songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Mary Black, Dolores Keane and The Dubliners to name just a few. His song, “The Voyage,” has become a classic of contemporary Irish music. The late Ronnie Drew said of Johnny ‘He is one of my favourite songwriters’.
On podcasts.ie you are now been offered an opportunity to hear Johnny talk about his work, and about how some of his most famous songs came to be, you will also hear unique, unplugged music recordings delivered in Johnny’s resonant voice. These songs and words where recorded at Johnny’s home in Galway exclusively for Podcasts.ie, we hope you will enjoy these wonderful recordings as much as we did putting them together.
Above you will find a podcast of Johnny performing and talking about his songs “Your Sure Hand“, “The Voyage” and “Don’t give up till it’s over” especially for podcasts.ie and below that there is an interview with Johnny talking about his career and his work.

From an expatriate of at least a couple of centuries ago….
I love your sensitivity and word pictures. Given the state of the economy here in the States, your song Don’t Give Up Till It’s Over sends a strong encouraging message. The idea of grasping the nettle until it burns is a powerful image.
Thankyou
