Irish poet and writer Ger Reidy was born near Westport in County Mayo. His poems have appeared in publications including Poetry Ireland Review, Cyphers, Force 10, The Shop, The Healing Word, Breaking the Skin, Ambit, The Salmon, The Cuirt Journal, De Brakke Hond (In Belgium) and in 2003 the Moscow poetry journal ‘Modern Literature’ and also in various issues of the Mayo Anthology. Ger has read at many festivals and has been featured extensively on both Local and National radio in Ireland.
Ger has won many national poetry competitions including the Allingham Prize, The Boyle Arts Festival Poetry competition on two occasions, The George Moore Poetry Competition, The Tipperary Poetry Competition, and the Maria Edgeworth Competition. His first collection, “Pictures From a Reservation“, published by Dedalus was launched at the Scriobh Literary Festival in 1998.
Ger’s second collection ” Drifting Under The Moon” (Dedalus Press) was published earlier this year and you can listen to a reading from the collection below.
Ger Reidy has a unique voice both in word and timbre, the cadence in his poetry is guaranteed to make you want to listen but will also encourage you to read his work for yourself, his love of words is infectious but it is how he uses them that makes his prose and poetry a truly wonderful experience. Currently we have four readings from Ger Reidy to choose from below but just added this week we have a new interview with Ger Reidy about his work and his new publication which is due out in May, 2010.
Below you will find an Interview with Ger Reidy, he also read from his latest collection “Drifting Under The Moon” (Dedalus 2010)

Hi Barry,
The photograph was taken on Clare Island off the coast of Mayo in 2007 during the recording of a radio series A Heritage Tour Series One which has now now been edited for Podcasts.ie as Mayo’s Heritage in our featured shows section. You can hear part of the recording at https://www.podcasts.ie/2010/03/mayos-heritage-week-6/
