John Corless is a Mayo-based writer of poetry, drama and fiction. His debut collection of poems, ‘Are you ready?’ was published by Salmon Poetry in 2009 and was a big seller. John’s work often uses humour as a means of dealing with dark subjects and has been described as “…gritty and irreverent, infected with copious amounts of tongue-in-cheekhumour.”  He “…shines the tell-tale torchlight of his killer wit into all the most embarrassing areas of contemporary Irish life. No-one is safe.” Apparently “Nothing escapes his wry wit, his derisive eye and his urge to shake things up to make the world a better place…” One critic said his work contained “…side-splitting humour.”

John teaches Creative Writing in numerous locations throughout the west of Ireland most notably the Castlebar campus of GMIT.

He has an MA in Creative Writing from Lancaster University and is currently researching for a PhD.
