Welcome to Grace Wells’ page on Podcasts.ie. Grace has worked as an Independent television producer in her native London. Since moving to Ireland she has settled in as a writer in County Tipperary. Her first book a children’s novel, ‘Gyrfalcon’ is a unique adventure story about warriors, spirits and a lonely, brave boy won the Eilis Dillon Best Newcomer Bisto Award and was also an International White Ravens’ Choice. Subsequent childrens’ books ‘One World, Our World’ and ‘Ice-Dreams’ have been published within the last two years. “Ice Dreams” serves as a reminder that when people work together anything is possible! Her poetry and short stories have appeared widely and she reviews Irish poetry for the University of Chicago’s online literary journal, ‘Contrary’ and ‘The Stinging Fly’. She is a Kavanagh Award winner and has been selected for Poetry Ireland Introductions Series. Grace has worked with people with special needs facilitating biography and poetry workshops. She has been Literature Officer with South Tipperary Art Centre based in Clonmel, and Writer-in-Residence in Kilkenny. Her first collection of poetry, ‘When God has been Called Away to Greater Things’ was written for adults and was published by Dedalus Press in May 2010. It was short-listed for the London Festival Fringe New Writing Award and in March 2011 won the Rupert and Eithne Strong Best Newcomer Award 2011.
